Richard Chao: Raising funds to help with early onset dementia

Our dear father and friend, Richard Chao, has recently suffered a horrible traffic accident, that has left him permanently brain damaged and with early onset Dementia. This has caused a great ripple of difficulty for his young adult children, who are trying desperately to support their father in his time of need. However, due to the constant 24-hour care required by his children, they are unable to find regular employment that would pay for his medical needs and care. We would like to help them in this difficult time and provide some financial support that will enable them as the primary caregivers to support Richard and assist in basic living costs.

Richard requires assisted living and is not allowed to be alone at any time. He is currently Hsinchu Armed Forces Hospital, and we anticipate his transfer to a local nursing home once discharged from the hospital.

The government has told the family that they will not give any financial support at this time because it is legally the requirement of any family members, specifically children – to support their parents medical welfare. He will be assessed for disability in 6 month’s time, at which point Richard will be eligible for disability welfare support.

Our donation’s goal is: 80,000 NTD

How will that money be spent?

- Nursing home (approximate costs: 30,000 NTD / month)

- Medical costs ( currently 20,000 NTD)

- Care giver basic cost of living (10,000 NTD)

Any funds raised will assist in the 24-hour care of Richard and enable his children to find regular employment that will also provide the main financial support for their father. We hope this goal seems realistic to the kind donators, this is not something the family has a great deal of experience with, but they are facing the most challenging time right now and anticipate it to be much harder during the winter months.

我們親愛的父親和朋友 Richard Chao 在近期遭遇了一場可怕的交通事故，導致他患得了永久性的腦損傷和早發性癡呆症。

由於他的孩子們需要24小時不間斷的照顧他們臥病在床的父親，因此這帶給了他年幼的孩子們生活上的困難，也讓他們無法找到足以支付醫療和照護需求等費用的工作。

Richard在任何時候都不被允許獨處，這便代表著他迫切需要有人無時無刻的照護。他目前住在新竹空軍醫院，而他的孩子們預計在他出院後將他轉移到當地的療養院。

在政府評估之下，趙姓一家人被告知目前並不會得到任何金錢方面的援助；但Richard將在六個月後接受殘疾評估，屆時他將有資格得到殘疾福利相關方面的支持。

趙家的募款目標金額為：80,000 NTD

他們將會如何分配募款金額？

— 療養院 （預計花費：30,000 NTD /月）

— 醫療費 （目前為 20,000 NTD）

— 看護基本生活費 （10,000 NTD）
