Raising funds for our teachers operation

As volunteers at this wonderful school near Siem Reap in Cambodia, we are writing this GoGetFunding Page on behalf of the brilliant founder, director, and teacher, Poeuy Tith. During our stay, Poeuy has found out he has to have an emergency Hernia operation. This is a huge financial blow to his family due to its price and the lack of welfare support from the government.

Pouey’s ambition has always been to help those less fortunate. The school offers free education to more than one hundred impoverished children and young adults of the Bakong community; many of whom are not able to attend school otherwise because their families cannot afford the related costs. Pouey believes that education is the key to helping the next generation break free from poverty, he remains passionate about improving the lives of the families of Bakong village.

Education has always been Poeuy’s mission. Prior to founding the school, he was an English teacher and before that a tuk-tuk driver. Poeuy was born in 1984, one of five children and the son of farmer. He taught himself English when living in a Pagoda with Monks at 10 years old. When he was 14 years old, he started government school and completed High school in 2007. Later he attended university for a year and learned English at High Q Centre in Siem Reap.

Rural Teaching Organisation Cambodia (RTOC) is a registered non-profit organization located in Thnol Trong Village, Bakong Commune, Bakong District, Siem Reap Province, just outside of Siem Reap town. The school is a complete non-profit NGO, every penny from every donation goes right back into the institution. This ranges from classrooms, to books, to stationery, to bicycles, to uniforms for the government school, to clothes and to food for the students. As such, Poeuy and his family do not make any money from the school, meaning that in an emergency like this there is no fund to support the operation.

This is now our chance to give back and help Poeuy with the financial support he needs. This money will enable him to have a crucial operation, so we can return him to teaching as quickly as possible. Without Poeuy, there is no school, he has dedicated his life to these children.

We strongly believe that any money, no matter how small, will go a big way in getting Poeuy and the school back on its feet.
