We are raising funds for my son Juan Carlos Miguel David to cover the costs of his very rare type of Germ Cell Tumor - STAGE IV Cancer chemotherapy sessions, hospital bills, and other medical needs.
He has been confined for the second time in The Medical City Pasig, since May 31. Prior to this, he was confined last April 26 – May 10 (15 days) for his biopsy and pain management.

The Story of Miguel: A Big First at 14
Have you ever wondered or reminisced about what you were doing when you were only 14? You might have been discovering a lot of firsts during this time – your first venture into freedom as you hung out with your friends at the mall or the park, your first earnings from a summer job or chore that you took on, or the excitement and pains of first love.
This year, 2020, presents us all with a different experience, especially for the youth. Curfews have been imposed, movements are limited, and a lot of “firsts” put on hold.
For our very own 14 year old Miguel, he is presented with his very first big challenge in life - the battle for his life against Cancer.
He started experiencing pains in his stomach early this year, but these worsened, and so by last week of April, at the height of this pandemic, he was rushed to The Medical City, wherein he immediately underwent an open biopsy procedure on 2 big tumors (16cm, 10cm) found in his liver and beside his pancreas.
After two different laboratory tests from different hospitals and over a month's wait, it was determined that he has Extra-gonadal Germ Cell Tumor with yolk sac components - Stage IV. Aside from stomach pains, the bigger tumor beside his pancreas has grown 23% more in size since April, and is slightly pushing and adding pressure to his heart, causing him chest pains as well. A 2nd ct scan has also shown that his liver tumor grew 50% more in size. Oncologists immediately ordered chemotherapy procedure for it is critical. He will need to undergo several cycles of BEP chemotherapy, before considering surgical removal of what remains of the tumor, and this is only possible if the chemotherapy is successful.
The battle has just begun, and we see a long, arduous fight, that no child should ever endure. And yet, he has been placed in this situation. Miguel is very afraid and anxious, and it breaks our heart to see him in this state. As we seek to find the meaning of this test and the message that God wants us to realize, we also seek your support, financially and in faith.
No help or support will be deemed too small. However you may wish to support Miguel during this time, this will make sure that he will continue to experience more “firsts” – adventures that would lead to a penchant for travelling, jobs or chores that would lead to his discovery of his chosen course or career, young love that would lead to forever.
And hopefully, as he gets older, and reminisces on what he was doing when he was 14, he will tell his family and children of how he once fought a battle and won. He will live on to tell this tale.
