The student’s name is Xueqi CHEN, a postgraduate student from a southern French univsersity. Because of the great reputation of the French educational system and driven by the enthusiasm towards French culture and language, Chen has always dreamed of coming and studying in one of the universities in France. Despite having financial disadvantages, his parents, both Chinese farmers in a remote rural village, fully supported his dreams and gave him an amount of money for living expenditures (no tuition fee in French universities, one reason why the student chose France). This amount of money was earned by Chen’s parents through years of hard working. This amount, several thousand euro, though not much for a middle class family, really is a lot of money for a rural low-income family like Chen’s.

CHEN arrived in France just one month ago and everything went well in the first three weeks. However, just last week, on his way to deposit his parents’ money to a local French bank, he was robbed and physically violated by an Algerian French robber, probably an illegal immigrant. His right leg and his left arm were seriously injured. The nearly 2500 euro in cash and his passport were lost. Much worse, The French police told him that the possibility to bring the criminal to justice and get back his money is next to zero.

The student is damaged, physically and psychologically and is very desperate. He doesn’t know whether or not he will resume his studies. His parents are heartbroken as well.

As one of his friends, I feel sympathy for what has happened to him. And I really hope that we can help him out by donating some money to him.
