Tsunami waves hit the west coast of Banten and parts of South Lampung. The tsunami originated from the Sunda Strait waters flanked by Java and Sumatra.

Allegedly Caused by Eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau The Gunung Anak Krakata activity has increased since June 18, 2018 and eruptions continue. On December 22, an eruption was thought to have caused a tsunami that hit Banten and Lampung. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) delivered information on Mount Anak Krakatau erupting at 21.03 WIB. Eruption activity causes underwater avalanches.

On December 22 at 21.03 WIB, the Geoglog Agency announced that there was another eruption of Gunung Anak Krakatau. Then at 9:27 p.m. tidegauge (interim observations) the Geospatial Information Agency recorded by BMKG indicated that there was a sudden rise in the beach water level. So there is an increase in water, and we analyze our time to analyze, whether the increase in water is tidal due to atmospheric phenomena, there are high waves and then full moon, so right now it is in that phase.

Based on the updated data carried out by BNPB at 16.00 WIB, the tsunami resulted in 222 deaths. In addition, 843 people were injured, and 30 people were missing.
