The Rafiki School of Music is up and running with music and song.  We have a building for lessons and choir practice, nice instruments for the children to play, and instructors to teach them.  The first anniversary of the Rafiki School of music is just around the corner and we are looking at year number 2.  Our goal at Rafiki School of Music is to give the children a quality music education and provide them the opportunity to express themselves musically, enrich their community, envoke their creative spirit, unite them with other musicians, and potentially become a professional musician.

The music program at Rafiki is unique.  Music and the arts are not easily accessible in Kenya, but are highly regarded.  Last year we were able to hire a choir/keyboard  instructor and a guitar teacher.  They have made progress with the children who are now able to play songs on their instruments.

In 2014 we would like to add 2 more instructors at the school.  Many of the children have expressed interest in the drums.  We have many hand percussion instruments, as well as an entire drum kit.  If the some of the kids have access to percussion we would be well on the way to having an entire band.  Another area that we'd like to expand is giving the girls a musical mentor.  So we'd like to hire a female vocal coach to come to Rafiki once a week to work with a girls choir, and give a few talented singers some private lessons.

We are giving a gift of music to the Children at Rafiki,  They love playing and singing, and are very happy to have music become part of their lives.  I personally cannot wait to hear what music will be performed, learned, and written at Rafiki.

One of Jesse's goals while at Rafiki in February is to record what the students have been working on.  Their video/audio performance with be presented at Music in the Round Feb. 22nd in order to share the accomplishments we've made in only one year.
