Race the Sun – Wing 2 Wing

Hello everybody , my name is Glenn Bloomer and I am trying to raise money to help my friend Pete Rowlands, in his rehabilitation from life changing injuries he sustained whilst working in the Alps in 2013. On the 12th April, 2013 I was ski touring with Pete and three others in the Austrian Alps, at around lunchtime a large avalanche self released on the mountainside above us. Pete spotted it before anyone else in the group and managed to shout a warning, which ultimately saved all our lives. Unfortunately by shouting the warning Pete was caught by the avalanche and suffered a terrible injuries. Without Pete's early warning, I am convinced that we would of all suffered a similar fate or worse. Pete was initially in a coma for three weeks in Innsbruck before being transferred back to the UK to begin his long and hard road to recovery. The road has not been easy for Pete but he has kept his sense of humour and his tremendous work ethic. Prior to the accident Pete was a superb mountaineer and athlete, who was a qualified British Mountain Guide and, amongst his other interests and hobbies, a keen cyclist. as part of his rehabilitation process Ptee uses a static bike but to aid him further I would like to raise funds (£2500) to enable a type of static bike called a Wattbike to be purchased for Pete's personal use. To enable funds to be raised to purchase the equipment, I intend, with your support and help to ride from my place of work in Ripon, North Yorkshire to Pete's old place of work in Llanfair PG on Anglesey, North Wales. The distance I am planning to cover is roughly 300km and should (fingers crossed) take 12-14 hours to complete. I will be riding solo with my wife, Julia, driving our campervan to meet me every few hours as support. I'm hoping to do the ride on, or around, the 21st June 2015 (the longest day). My background is not in cycling and currently the furtherest I have ridden is 130km which took me 5 hours to complete, so I am under no illusions as to the difficulty of the challenge ahead.
