First of all...
PS. : the amount i set is not the goal, i only set it to that amount because i am willingly to give all brothers and sisters a chance to donate for an unbroken charity especially in this beautiful moment, Ramadan.
السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته
Ramadan Mubarak for all of you. May Allāh bless our Ramadan and accept our ibadah. And may He grant you the best state of health and imaan. Aameen allahumma aameen.
Dearest brothers and sisters, my name is Janni. I created this campaign to raise funds for my late fiance. His name is Roy J Shelton, an American Muslim revert, alhamdulillah. He passed away last November 2015 due to hit and run accident. Since then my life has changed. I have been doing sadaqah on his behalf, but like 'small ones' like giving food to beggars on the streets. But it does not make me feel better because i have been thinking that i want unbroken rewards for him even later / one day i return to Allāh ; and the thought of "who will give charity on his behalf when i die?" literally disturbs me. I do this because i want all the best for him in akhirah / Jannah, and because my love for him. No one does this since the whole families are not Muslims ; yet i want him to always be rewarded by this sadaqah, in shaa Allāh. So, this time, in Ramadan 2021 i made a decision to create this campaign. I want to give away Quran's — especially for those who memorize Quran (future hafidh's / hafidha's), in shaa Allāh. I have a friend who lives in Quranic orphanage and also teaches Quran in another orphanage. And i have talked to him for donating Quran's to the students in the orphanages to him. And my neighbor's sibling also works in the field of charities in a remote village and alhamdulillah i have talked to them as well about this plan
Before i go further, i would love to tell a short story of his.
Roy's eldest sister asked him to go to the supermarket to bought something for her, and it was kind of very late there (midnight). He went on foot and never came back home. And in the early morning, her neighbor came over and told her that Roy was found on the street — died. The suspect was not arrested right away because he escaped and he hid the car somewhere. But alhamdulillah after the news were up to the media, he surrendered himself to the police.
His sister and i talked before. She told me that a few days before his passing, he randomly told her that if he passed away he wanted to be buried instead of cremated (since the whole families are not Muslims) — and if the family could not afford it then it was fine for him to be cremated.
The sister tried to fundraise for his funeral, but it did not work. She could not reach the goal. So she had to cremate him and then buried the ashes.
It broke my heart so so much to know that he passed away that way and his whole body became nothing but ashes. And there was no proper goodbye for me because we did not talk for 2 days before it happened (he was a hard worker and he worked hard for our wedding plans, so sometimes we did not talk at all in a few days).
With regard to charity, it was narrated in al-Shahih from Aisha رضي الله عنها that a man said to the Prophet ﷺ :
❝My mother died suddenly and she did not leave a will, but I think that if she could have spoken she would have given in charity. Will she have a reward if I give in charity on her behalf?❞
The Prophet ﷺ said :
[al-Bukhari, no 1388 ; Muslim, no 1004]
❝The deceased can benefit from charity given on his behalf, which includes a waqf of a Mus-haf etc, or digging a well, or planting a tree, whether he does that during his lifetime or it is done by someone else on his behalf after his death.❞ [Tuhfat al-Muhtaaj, 7/72]
And the Prophet ﷺ said :
❝When a person dies, all his good deeds come to an end except three: ongoing charity, or beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who will pray for him.❞
And the Quran says :
❝The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allāh is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes, in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allāh multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allāh is All-Encompassing and Knowing.❞ [Quran, al Baqarah (ch. 2) ; 261]
And a hadith says,
❝The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.❞ [Tirmidhi no. 604]
Thank you so much in advance for those who are willingly to donate for me on his behalf. May Allāh multiply your rizq with lots of barakah and grant you all the best in this dunya and akhirah. Aameen allahumma aameen. Jazakumullah khayran.
