Breezy Point is a close knit community that sits at the end of the Rockaway peninsula in Queens, NY.  This community is all too familiar with tragedy, having suffered great losses during the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the crash of American Airlines Flight 587, a tornado in September 2012 and, most recently, Hurricane Sandy.

Of the 2,800 homes in Breezy, 111 homes were completely destroyed by fire.  The homes that did not burn had major flood and wind damage, with some homes blown entirely off their foundations and piled together.

Left in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the Quinn/Baldrian family is just one example of those working tirelessly to pick up the pieces of their lives in hopes of rebuilding for the future.

Displaced indefinitely, living in a 1 bedroom basement apartment in Brooklyn, the family is relying on temporary rental cars to get them to and from work and the kids to their new schools.  Operating with sheer determination and a commitment to family values, they remain resilient.  Without question, they will overcome this most recent tragedy and return to the community that they love so much!

Unfortunately, while the family has made some progress with finding local housing accommodations, there is little hope in recovering any meaningful proceeds from auto insurance for the two totaled cars as they had minimal replacement value.

The goal of this fundraiser is to raise enough money to cover the cost of purchasing two cars that will provide reliable transportation for the family while they work to put their lives back together.  Any and all donations whether big or small are appreciated.  Thank you and God Bless.

  • Poet Emily Dickinson wrote: Hope is the thing with feathers, That perches in the soul, And sings the tune-without the words, And never stops at all... Wishing you hope as you rebuild.
