"Improve living condition of rural communities in need"
"We believe that quality education accessible and attractive to every child is a starting point to a better life"
The beginning of April 2015 was a week of excitement and happiness in Bangthali, not only because the spring was in full blossom and skies were clear, but because the dream of the community was about to come true - the newly built school was opening its' doors for the first time. But this excitement didn't last long. On Saturday April the 25th a devastating earthquake of 7.9 magnitude hit Nepal. The disaster took lives of 8700 people while thousands more lost their homes. Our school was no exception.
But we did not give up on our dreams and together we have been rising from the ground again.
Learning from this terrible experience, we were looking to rebuild the school based on technology that would be durable against earthquakes and yet sustainable - we found the answer in earth bag methodology.
A few years later, our three classroom building is almost complete. But we still have a long way to go. Our overall goal is to introduce a learning center where children would be motivated to come and study every day, where quality teachers would make education attractive and where food for students would be distributed for free to release economical burden from their parents.
As we make safety a priority our intention is to connect the center with an emergency room deploying first aid qualified staff and an ambulance, enabling transport to the hospital, an 8 hour drive away.
