What is Push Projects?

Push Projects is a LGBTQ youth support charity for people up to the age of 25 who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, as well as those who are questioning their sexuality or gender identity.

What does Push Projects do?

Push Projects has a weekly social and support group where people can come along and relax in a safe, social space. Members can meet other LGBTQ people and socialise in a friendly and supportive environment. As well as the social aspect of the group there is also ongoing support available. This is in the form of either peer or 1:1 support and can be regarding any aspect of life.

Push Projects also offers email and telephone support at any time. This is for LGBTQ people who do not want to attend a group or would like to find out more first. Email and telephone support is also available to any person who wants to find out more about Push Projects or LGBTQ issues.

Another part of Push Projects is the delivery of talks and workshops. These are available to any organisation working with young people or LGBTQ people and they cover LGBTQ issues, homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, challenging homophobic/transphobic language, celebrating diversity, and building confidence and self esteem.

One final part of Push Projects is the consultancy service it provides. This is available to any person or organisation that requires it. Push Projects consults on LGBTQ issues.

What does Push Projects want to raise money for?

As Push Projects is a charity it relies on the kindness of public donations. This allows the charity to continue doing its work and helping vulnerable young people. There is no other charity like this in the area so it is even more vital that it continues to run.

Two projects that Push Projects is working on is the creation of a DVD about homophobia and LGBTQ issues that can be shown in local schools. The cost to make the DVD is £1500 and fundraising is underway for that. The second project is a photography exhibition about celebrating diversity. About £500 is needed for that.

Both projects will help to empower young people and raise awareness of the issues that young LGBTQ people face.
