Casa Providencia is a special needs orphanage and therapy center.

In Panamá there are more than 200 special needs orphans in understaffed, ill-equipped orphanages, many of whom are bound to their cribs to reduce the risk of injury. Special needs orphans are rarely adopted, often abused, and the cost to care for them is high. They have become known as the “unwanted of the unwanted.”

This orphanage is to be the onlyspecial needs orphanage in Panamá. Because there are no special needs orphanages, children with special needs are put in regular orphanages where they do not receive appropriate care. The normal orphanage in Panamá does not have the facilities or resources to provide for these children, causing them to tie them to their beds, not out of cruelty, but simply because they do not have enough staff to give them the attention they need. Casa Providencia provides a place for the special needs of orphans that have the individual care, attention, and resources they need to not only improve but to live healthy lives.

En Panamá hay más de 200 huérfanos con necesidades especiales con condición de discapacidad los cuales se atienden en orfanatos mal equipados y con falta de personal. Muchos de estos niños son a veces sujetados a sus cunas para reducir el riesgo de lesiones. Los niños con necesidades especiales son rara vez adoptados y a menudo se trata de niños abusados. El costo para cuidarlos es alto. Se les conoce como los “no deseados de los no deseados”. Este será el único orfanato para niños con necesidades especiales en Panamá ya que no existen en la actualidad, por lo que niños en condición de discapacidad son llevados a orfanatos regulares en donde no reciben la atención adecuada.

El orfanato normal en Panamá no cuenta con las instalaciones o los recursos necesarios para atender a estos niños, lo que les obliga a atarlos a sus camas, no por crueldad, sino simplemente porque no tienen el personal suficiente para brindarles la atención que necesitan.
