Publication of Transgender Magazine

I am Murat, a transgender psychology student from Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey.

As a small trans+ community striving to change the cis-normative structure and its destructive implications in Turkish society, I and my friend Arda are struggling with the conditions of ever-worsening political atmosphere here in Turkey.

However, there is still hope for us! Thus, I started Turkey’s first Transgender-rights-only Magazine called Akışkan Sayfalar, translated as “Fluid Pages” 8 months ago. It’s a quarterly published magazine that covers topics of trans rights activism, (a)sexuality, (a)romance, cissexism, interviews, history of trans+ activism, trans+ related art, photography, literature, film critiques, etc.

Our first and foremost aim is to create a platform on which we can improve ourselves and produce ideas as transgenders+ who are harshly excluded from many aspects of social life. Thus, we invited other transgenders, genderqueers, gendernonbinaries, genderfluids and + to be authors or make any other contributions to Fluid Pages. We had started this magazine as just 2 people being authors, and now we are a big trans+ community of 9 people!

Currently, we have successfully published our first issue in hardcopy and we also have finished & delivered our second issue on online platforms. We added a link directed to the pdf versions of both issues. Third issue is in the process of writing and will be released in June.

For the first issue, we found a one-time sponsorship from an NGO which is Sivil Düşün EU Programme (Think Civil EU Programme). It costed 4000 Liras (tax-free, due to the agreement of NGO) which is equal to 973 US Dollars, I attach a photo of the receipt.

However, we have no funding for our second and third issues.

As I do the design of the magazine myself, our only expense is printing expenses. And estimated total cost for 2nd and 3rd issues is 2,000 US dollars.

Because we would love you to be able to read our magazine in English as well, we raised our goal up by 200 US Dollars so that we get it professionally translated into English.
