I want to put up a public library in our community, but not just a place to read books but also a venue for the culture and arts.
I am Alexis Moreno, 42 from Manila, Philippines. I live with my mother and wife in a humble home in Quezon City. I work as a Graphic Designer, 5 days a week.
Beside our place is a house that the real owners left decades ago and lived miles away. Rarely they would visit the house. Although we hold the key of the place, we rarely visit and check the interior.
Since we can not contact the owners, as caretaker, i plan to use it temporary for this library project. But it needs some renovations. The roofs and walls are leaky and electrical wirings are all worn out. It needs cleaning and everything where i think rats are also nesting inside.
I don't have much fund to proceed with the project. I need finance to build this as a temporary place for education and the arts. And i'm also thinking that for this library to stand alone, i will put up a store in our home, just beside it, where people can buy merchandise and food to help support the venue. As for the books, i will ask people to donate educational books and magazines. Visual artists can use the place as an art gallery and hold free art classes for kids and the young adults.
Putting up a library is my dream back when i was a kid and upto now. I used to go to a public library in our street in the 80s but when the old librarian lady died, the library closed forever.
I still believe that there are children out there that is hungry for knowledge and in need to understand and know more about the culture and arts of the Philippines.
Can't do this alone, i need all the help i can. I'm also dreaming that someday i will also put up more library in other places where people have less access to books.
If you can help by donating for this cause, the only thing i can promise for now is make a signage in front of the place with the names that made this possible.
Thank you very much.
