Campaign Story
I was in a physically abusive marriage for 5 years. I left in 2011 with a 3 year child. I was unemployed at the time.I moved back in with my mother. I am the second born in a family of seven. My parents were retired with two of my siblings still in school. I received a few sessions of counselling at Nairobi Women's Hospital Hurlingham but stopped after my therapist said I resembled a certain Kenyan politician and I should seek help from him. The next 6 years were tough. Emotional and financial struggle, poor health, broken friendships. I worked with another therapist from October 2017. I would like to start a support centre for other women. To help them avoid what I went through., I lost a lot of time, hope and energy during this time. Physical abuse has far reaching effects on a woman's life. The campaign will be ongoing with the initial funds being raised to pay therapists. The final plan is to build a halfway house for battered women where they will receive support and advise.
