Hello, my name is Helen. I was born and raised in Cebu, Philippines and I've been rescuing kittens from hunger and perilous situations for several years now.

Things started one morning when I slammed on the brakes while driving to work. I turned a corner to find a tiny orange kitten sitting in the middle of a busy road, literally seconds from death. I stopped the traffic, grabbed the kitten and jumped back into into the car. We turned around and went home. There my partner bottle-fed her (baby formula) and cleaned her up. We then took her to the local vet for a check-up. Her name is Bubbles and she is the sweetest thing, very affectionate and gentle. She is asleep right now, behind me on her favorite chair.

I want you to know that I don't go around searching for cats to house. However, if I see an animal in imminent danger I feel compelled to intervene. I cannot in good conscience ignore an animal in need. Cats are domesticated animals which means that they learned to trust humans. I believe that we owe them consideration and ethical treatment. Sadly my feelings aren't shared by the majority of people in the Philippines as cruelty, neglect and indifference are tragically commonplace. Apart from the cats that we've randomly encountered on the roads, neighbors, family and casual acquaintances have also brought cats to us for care. on a couple of occasions entire litters! I guess word got out about the crazy cat people lol.

We enjoy caring for cats and never consider them a burden, they are family to us and they share our home. Unfortunately the reality of our financial situation is starting to take it's toll. We simply can't afford to care for the growing number of rescue cats. We currently have 16 cats and the cost of food, vaccinations, cat litter and de-worming is too much. We tried to manage on our income for years and we are not the type of people to ask others for help, but the situation has become serious now. Finding new homes (apart from being heartbreaking) is near impossible in this country.

I'm hoping that there are animal lovers out there, people who feel the same way as we do about helping animals in distress. Any assistance no matter how small would be greatly appreciated and will translate directly into essentials that will keep our home viable as a cat sanctuary. We have ample room, we just need a little help with ongoing expenses... primarily food, spaying and neutering.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I will update with current info on all the individual cats as often as possible.

ps.... That's Bubbles in the main photo :-)
