WE NEED YOUR HELP

My friends and I mentor young boys and girls from Syengoni Primary School in Makueni County, Kenya. I am also the vice-chair of the school’s board of management. Syengoni Primary School is situated in a rural and poor economic environment and is the only school in Syengoni area. This means that most of the families in this community educate their children here.Syengoni receives dismal funding from the government, compromising the quality of education for the young boys and girls. To sustain it, the school children alongside the parents grow food in the school farms to feed the children. The school also depends on donations from the community to provide desks and educational materials.

Unfortunately, the Syengoni faces rampant vandalism of food and school equipment since the classes, stores and offices are located in an open field. Every time the food stores are vandalized, young boys and girls are forced to go without lunch for weeks. Whenever desks are stolen, our children sit on the floor while studying. Theft of books and teaching materials has compromised the quality of education these children receive. The school doors and windowpanes are often stolen exposing our children to insecurity, cold, wind and dust, while they strive to achieve quality grades. Vandalism of latrines and toiletries has often exposed young girls to shame and robbed them the dignity of life. The Syengoni Community has also been burdened by constantly supporting the school to replace stolen and vandalized facilities.

We are putting a stop to this. We are claiming back our dignity!

We are raising funds to build a stone wall fencing around the classrooms, stores and administration offices. We will also place a gate and a guard post to regulate access within the school. We are determined to provide security to our vulnerable children The funds raised will be used for the following:

• Buy building materials to construct the wall and guard’s post (stones, sand, ballast, cement, metal)
• Buy a gate for the entrance.
• Pay for labour through this project.
