Prostate Cancer – Raising Awareness

Update posted by John Wall On Sep 25, 2017

Our friends Ewelina & Kasia organised a get together in Quin Community Centre where Bokwa was taught, faces were painted, cakes were sold & ju jitsu skills demonstrated.

Owing to a rather stubborn infection. I unfortunately was unable to attend as am in hospital but nothing that a few days won't sort out.

Our campaign nears €9000 in total which has astounded us beyond belief. We will let it run online for another week or so before closing it off & will talk to the people in the know about where the money would be best spent.

My colleagues at work raffled a balloon at their annual dinner dance the previous evening & raised €450 which was an incredible gesture. Must've been some balloon!

I'm also delighted to say that our awareness programme is working effectively. Many appointments made & discussions had in recent weeks.

Remember a simple blood test!

We are beyond grateful for the huge turnout to last evenings get together to raise awareness & euros for The Prostate Campaign. The village of Quin emptied itself into our local where songs were sang, hair was dyed & stories told!

I'm hearing many stories of many guys getting their bloods checked over the last few days. That puts an enormous smile across my face. To say that my family & I are buoyed by the support from far & wide would be a gross understatement.

THANK YOU ALL!

Day one over & done with. Plenty of apprehension beforehand but genuinely a very satisfying experience. Amazing fellow patients & quite extraordinary nurses & staff.

I ain't going to be posting updates every day but if I've something to get off my chest, you guys are gonna hear about it!

Can't believe how well the fundraising is going. Really does uplift my spirits knowing all the good will that exists out there.

As for the blue hair, well I'm afraid I won't be able to dye it because of the bleach involved (chemo rules!) but don't fret, I'm getting it sprayed blue on Sunday evening. I'm sure I'll still get some funny looks but sure what the hell, wouldn't be the first time!

Until again.....

John.
