Promotion and Protection of Children’s right in Senegal

SOS Talibe is an organization that works for the promotion and protection of children's rights in Senegal. It is nationally recognized under the following licence 12712/MINT.CL/DAGAT/AS .The word "Talibe" means student or follower of a religious leader. But these ones are between the age of 5 and 10, and stay in the streets all day long begging for money and food. Their teachers live in abandonned houses or unfinished ones and are not paid by the government. Therefore the kids study during the night in those places at the mercy of mosquitos and cold. Once in Dakar their "teacher" or religious leader ask them to bring at least a dollar or two dollars every night. If not they got beaten deadly. Facing all kind of ill-treatment and cruelty, these kids are in danger.

SOS Talibe carry on raising awareness about the alarming situation of these innocent children. One of our partners in Senegal, Amnesty International Senegal, co-sponsored a training of the "teachers" of these kids on the Children's right and how to put an end to these violences. During the month of Ramadan we offered lunch and dinner everyday to three Daara ( traditional school ).
