CLIMB4LIFE is an initiative by Douglas Alec Bvumbura the Founder of Cross Culture International Foundation (CCIF) a voluntary organizationVO/0628 registered and based in Malta, to raise funds that will bring relief and restoration to those who have been victims of human trafficking, and protect those who are vulnerable by informing them of the dangers of trafficking and the reality of the false hope offered by traffickers.

Our work involves raising preventative awareness about human trafficking and providing practical support to victims of modern slavery in order to help them reintegrate into society. Human trafficking can be broken down into three primary elements: what is done, how it’s done and why it’s done — the act, the means, and the purpose.

  • The purpose of human trafficking is always exploitation.
  • The methods for trafficking in persons include abuse of power, deception, coercion, and threats of or use of force.
  • The actual act of trafficking is done through the recruiting, transporting, harboring, transferring and receiving of persons.

Major Forms of Trafficking in Persons

Child trafficking: where children are moved either internationally or domestically so they can be exploited.

Forced labour: victims are forced to work against their will, often working very long hours for little or no pay in dire conditions under verbal or physical threats of violence to them or their families. Victims are often forced to work to pay off unrealistically large debts. It can happen in many sectors of the economy, from mining agriculture, fishing, construction, hospitality, nail bars, cannabis cultivation, food packaging etc.

Sexual exploitation: victims are forced to perform non-consensual or abusive sexual acts for example prostitution, escort work and pornography for profit of others. Women and children make up the majority of victims.

Criminal exploitation: often controlled and maltreated, victims are forced into crimes such as cannabis cultivation, shoplifting, forced begging or pick-pocketing against their will.

Early and forced marriage: when women are married without consent, often while still girls, and forced into sexual and domestic servitude.

Domestic servitude: victims are forced to carry out housework and domestic chores in private households with little or no pay, their movement is often restricted and they have very limited or no free time.

Organ harvesting: people are trafficked or exploited so their organs can be sold to be used in transplants. Sometimes victims are deceived into giving up their organs; others may agree to sell organs but are not paid afterwards or are underpaid; others have organs stolen during (often unnecessary) operations.

CCIF has been working on anti-human trafficking in Malta and is also working in the same area in Zimbabwe where the rateof unemployment is extremely high and there is an increasing level of poverty that has left many people vulnerable to exploitation. CCIF is using its experience, to step out and make a difference in the lives of people that have been torn apart by human trafficking in Zimbabwe through this initiative. Your gift and support is greatly appreciated and will go a long way in rescuing victims of human trafficking and making a difference in the victim’s life.
