Campaign Story
Note: I will be travelling to Ghana with my friend Jessica, but this fundraising page is for my personal trip. If you are interested in donating to Jessica also, here is the link to her page: https://assets.gogetfunding.com/project/teaching-in-ghana-jessica
Our Trip:
This summer, Jessica and I will be traveling to Ghana to work with a non-profit organization called Global Volunteer Network. For 4 weeks, we will be living and teaching in an underdeveloped village, Dawhenya. Many schools in Ghana are currently struggling with overcrowded classes and a lack of skilled teachers. As volunteers, we will be teaching language and literacy, math, science, environmental studies, physical development, and psychosocial skills in a local primary school, Jesus Grammar School. We will be staying with a local family, Mr. and Mrs. Atta Okpeseh, in their compound house. We are looking forward to building meaningful relationships with the children, their families, and the local community. We are also very excited to experience the Ghanaian culture, environment, and lifestyle.
How you can help:
Prayers:
Although we are looking forward to this trip, there are many spiritual and financial needs that must be met before we go. For this, we’ll need your help! First and foremost, your prayers and support are greatly appreciated as we prepare for our trip. Please pray for the children we will be teaching, the community in which we will be living, our safety, and peace of mind for our friends and families. Your commitment to pray for the two of us and for the people of Ghana is so vital to the success of our trip, and we appreciate your support!
School Supplies:
Since we will be teaching in an underprivileged elementary school (Cameron will be teaching kindergarten; Jessica will be teaching first grade), we will be bringing all of our own school supplies. The school supplies we want to bring are notebooks for each child, construction paper, pencils, pencil sharpeners, crayons, and markers. We will be buying all of these supplies ourselves, so any donations would be greatly appreciated!
Financial Support:
Of course, as with any trip, there are financial needs as well. We wish we were capable of covering all of these expenses ourselves, but unfortunately we are not able to do so. Our program fee, which covers housing and meals for the month, is $1,700. Each of our roundtrip plane tickets cost $2,257. Preparation for this trip also involves getting immunizations (roughly $200), traveler’s insurance ($200), and visas ($60). While in Ghana, we will need roughly $30 a week for purified drinking water. We know these are large amounts, but every little bit helps.
We are so incredibly thankful for each and every one of you, and we feel very blessed to have so many supporters as we embark on this journey!
