Hello everybody! My name is Emiliano and I live with my dog Magnus in the city of Chilecito, in La Rioja, a province of Argentina, a country in South America. (That's why you may see grammatical errors in this project since I speak Spanish and my English is not good, I apologize for this!)

With the help of friends and family, I have been feeding and looking after the street dogs in my province for years. We have treated sick street dogs and cats ; as well as spaying and neutering to help control the population of stray animals. There is a big problem, and irresponsible owners are a huge factor. So we are also helping with education and awareness. As part of our work, we publish these tasks on our social media sites:

  • Magnus Pupperino | Facebook: Until not so long ago (about 2 months) on this page I uploaded all the content, both about my dog Magnus as well as about our rescues and street animal care tasks. I preferred to create a new page and thus separate both contents, as some rescues and outcomes are quite shocking and I thought it was not fair that people who follow Magnus for cheerful and funny content have to see these things.
  • Rescue Team - United Paws | Facebook: this page was recently created and here we publish everything related to rescues. The reason for the creation of this page was to separate the content about rescues from the page where I upload posts about my dog Magnus.

Unfortunately, due to the situation of our country and a worsening economy, our currency is constantly devalued. In addition, due to inflation, the costs of our work (medicines, visits to the veterinarian, food, etc.) are constantly rising. At the time of publishing this, both myself (Emiliano) and my friend Kyo (who owns the house where we adapted our little shelter and lives there) are unemployed. For this reason, it is difficult for us to maintain our support for the animals.

Despite these difficulties, there are many people around the world who have given us their help thanks to this GoFundMe platform in previous projects (fundraising for spaying and neutering of street animals, purchase of medicines for animals) and that is why we turn again to your help and collaboration.

The following is a summary of the tools, operations, vaccinations and cleaning elements, with their respective prices, as well as the total amount we need:At the request of the GoFundMe page, we rounded up the requested amount to 1550 USD. All the prices that we will place are in dollars, after making the conversion from Argentine pesos to dollars. The reason for this is that our currency is constantly devaluating due to the inflation so it is safer for us to place it in dollars and even if the price increases in Argentine pesos, the price in dollars will not vary significantly.

UPDATE 06-08-2023: Update on the targets we have added/removed:

Below is the detailed list, price and quantity of the tools and items we need:

Below we present in detail the problems we have in our small shelter and the tools we need for its repair/maintenance:

MATERIALS FOR CONSTRUCTION AND REPAIR

Mainly, we are having problems maintaining the home we have formed to care for the animals that need a place to recuperate. Due to the adverse weather we have had lately, the roof has been damaged and has affected the rooms where the animals recover or are sheltered from the adverse weather.

As you can see in the photos, the water has already started to leak through the roof and on days when we have constant rain or snow for several days, it affects us a lot when we have animals in recovery and also to maintain the heating and temperature. In order to repair the roof, we need 120x380 sheets of membrane, which will repair the roof and also act as an insulator to maintain the temperature. Below is a photo (illustrative):

On the other hand, one of the big problems we have (and that we have published in our social networks) is insecurity. We already had a case where they have broken into our shelter to try to steal, but our animals managed to defend the house and seriously injure the thieves. We have also had cases where, in an attempt to enter, they have killed our animals. That is why we want to reinforce the security measures by increasing the height of the walls. To do this, we need construction blocks no. 15, which is shown below (illustrative image):

We also need these blocks to build kennels in the yard for the animals, for their comfort.

In total we need 100 blocks, both to strengthen the wall of the house and to build the kennels.

In order to be able to build the kennels, we need 8mm construction iron. We need 2 iron rods and the cost of each one is 1300 ARS. Both cost 2600 ARS and the cost in dollars is approximately 32 USD. Below is an illustrative image:

Both to reinforce the wall and to build the kennels, we need bags of cement. We need 7 bags of cement of 50kg each. Below is an illustrative photo:

ITEMS FOR CLEANING/TRANSPORT/FEED

Cleanliness and hygiene is very important for our small shelter. That is why, due to the amount of animals that we have in recovery or even that we need to relocate to families that are responsible and love them, we have to do a daily cleaning, to maintain a clean and sanitized environment for the comfort of the animals. For this, we require the following products and in the following quantities for the following months:

  • Bleach: We need 5 drums of 5 liters each.
  • Floor Detergent: We need 5 drums of 5 liters each.
  • Acaroin: We need 5 drums of 5 liters each.
  • Creolin (It is a type of desinfectant): We need 5 drums of 5 liters each.
  • Hydrowasher: maybe the most expensive and difficult item for us to get, but it would help us a lot to perform deeper cleaning, better disinfection for our little shelter.

  • Dog & Cat Transport Crate Box Xs: an important accessory for animal transport.

  • Bag of Dog Food x15kg (8 bags)

OPERATIONS AND VACCINATIONS

As we constantly have animals in transit in recovery, they come with different ailments and diseases. That is why, in order to protect our own animals, we want to castrate them (to avoid possible fights in case we isolate animals in heat) and vaccinate them to protect them from possible diseases carried by other animals in transit/recovery.

Cyrus - Neutering for male dog

Cyrus is an elderly dog who unfortunately throughout his life was beaten by people. He was even locked in a house while the owners of the house went on vacation, with no one to take care of him or feed him, becoming extremely thin. In the last few months, Cyrus is in recovery in our shelter, since a neighbor of the neighborhood hit him hard on his hip, leaving him with a lifelong injury that complicates his walking (he was unable to walk for almost 1 month). We have come to the conclusion that Cyrus will die if he returns to street life, so we have decided that he will spend his last days in our shelter. But in order to do that, we need to neuter Cyrus as most of his physical injuries were the result of him being a tireless lover. Cyrus' operation, because of his size, costs us 3000 ARS which is equivalent to 32 USD.

Yago - Neutering for male dog and a quintuple booster vaccine

Yago is the dog of one of Kyo's sisters. He is a very guardian dog and helps in the rehabilitation of the animals. The problem is that Yago is a very territorial dog and there are conflicts with male dogs that arrive at the shelter for rehab, or if female dogs arrive that we isolate either for treatment or because they are in heat. The cost of the operation is 3000 ARS which is equivalent to 32 USD. The booster vaccine is to avoid that, if we have animals under treatment, they do not contract the disease. The cost of the vaccine is 1000 ARS, which is equivalent to 10.50 USD.

Pibul - Neutering for male dog and a quintuple booster vaccine

Pibul is a dog that Kyo rescued with his brother from a dumpster. Unfortunately, we couldn't save the brother and Pibul was on the verge of death. After recovering, Pibul became a beautiful dog, very cheerful and mischievous and also very hyperactive. Since Pibul also helps us to rehabilitate animals, we want to neuter him to avoid any problems with other male animals. The cost of the operation is 3000 ARS which is equivalent to 32 USD. The booster vaccine is to avoid that, if we have animals under treatment, they do not contract the disease. The cost of the vaccine is 1000 ARS, which is equivalent to 10.50 USD.

Morgana - Neutering for female dog and a quintuple booster vaccine

Morgana is a dog that was abandoned on Kyo's doorstep about 2 years ago. Morgana went through a long recovery as she had apparently been beaten. Luckily she recovered and is a great guardian of the shelter. The cost of the operation for female dogs is 4000 ARS which in dollars is 40 USD. In addition, we want to reinforce Morgana with a quintuple vaccine to prevent her from contracting possible diseases. The cost of the vaccine is 1000 ARS, which is equivalent to 10.50 USD.

Ahsoka - Neutering for female dog and a quintuple booster vaccine

Ahsoka was rescued from a family that did not care for her. She has a heart disease and as a result, she was on the verge of death. With a lot of effort and almost against all odds, we managed to save Ahsoka and she has become a fundamental piece in our shelter as she helps all the animals, both dogs and cats, to integrate into the shelter and recover. Ahsoka needs to be spayed or neutered. The cost of the operation for female dogs is 4000 ARS which in dollars is 40 USD and the cost of the vaccine is 1000 ARS, which is equivalent to 10.50 USD.

Mindy & Mandy - Neutering and quintuple booster vaccine for both female dogs

Mindy & Mandy are two dogs that belonged to one of Kyo's sisters who, from one day to the next, left the house and left them there. It has been many months since she left and she never cared for these two beauties. But we don't do the same. Luckily both dogs are in good health, but we want to improve this health by spaying and vaccinating them. The cost of the operation for female dogs is 4000 ARS which in dollars is 40 USD (80 USD for both) and the cost of the vaccine is 1000 ARS, which is equivalent to 10.50 USD (21 USD for both).

The "Deer" Puppies - Neutering for female dogs

The story of these three puppies is that their mother (We named her Deer Girl) died after giving birth, product of a car that hit her and awoke a cancer. Despite our group's best efforts, we were unable to save her. But these puppies recovered after a month and a half of treatment and care and, thanks to everyone's effort, we were able to find them families. But, as I mentioned before, animals have more chances to be adopted if they are spayed or neutered or if their surgery is covered when they reach the right age (as it is the case of these three puppies). That is why we are asking for this money as a precaution if we are unable to raise it in the future due to our unstable economy. The cost of the operation for female dogs is 4000 ARS which in dollars is 40 USD, 120 USD for each puppy.

The angry Kitten - Neutering for female cat

This kitten was rescued from the streets approximately two years ago, when she was almost a newborn. Although every effort has been made, her character is quite temperamental. At the moment she is in the shelter and as she frequently goes out for walks, we want to operate on her to prevent her from getting pregnant and also reduce her need to go out. The operation for female cats costs 3000 ARS, which is equivalent to 32 USD.

Kittens abandoned on the street - Neutering for both male cats

These kittens showed up at our small shelter. From the marks on their bodies, it seems that someone had hurt them and they were being chased. That is why they entered the shelter and appeared sleeping with the other animals. Although we started the diffusion to find adoptive families for them, a point in favor (to have more chances to be adopted as well as for their health) is that they should be neutered. The operation to neuter a male cat is 2000 ARS, which is equivalent to 22.66 USD.

The mother - treatment for a TVT (Transmissible Venereal Tumor)

This dog is the mother of a group of dogs we call "The Family" (consisting of her and her two daughters). She has a uveitis problem (which is being treated) but the biggest problem is that she has TVT, a tumor produced by sexual contact. Unfortunately the medication is very expensive and very difficult to get, plus the disease has a high probability of spreading either by sexual contact or if another animal sniffs the area. Since we have animals at the shelter, we do not have a place to isolate her. That is why we are asking for money to be able to get the medication called Vincristine and for the treatment. The cost is 5000 ARS which in dollars is equivalent to 51.65 USD.

To maintain transparency, we will upload all the necessary information that you request, as well as invoices and photos of the products at the time of purchase.

PayPal does not allow direct deposit to Argentine banks, so we must use an intermediate page (https://www.tunubi.com/) to make the transfer and conversion from dollars to Argentine pesos and be deposited in an Argentine bank account. The cost of this service is 12 USD. "Go get Funding" also takes a percentage of each donation we receive. Although the page does not show this percentage, we will try to raise what PayPal shows us.

If for some reason the money raised covers everything we need and there is money left over, we will use that money to help other rescue groups and we will upload all this information as well.

We thank everyone for their time for reading our project and we greatly appreciate any possible donation/diffusion to complete our project as soon as possible since we are running with the time factor in our country due to the unstable economy.

Thank you all and even though it is an important sum that we need, it is a huge help for us since we could assist more animals for a longer period of time.

Thank you all and remember to visit our social networks, there we constantly upload information about our work!
