Campaign Story
Hello dear friends!
About Us
Kudzo Foundation is a registered organization operating on the NPO Scale level aligned with Act No. 71 of 1997 for Non Profit Organizations. We are an operational NPO founded in October 2019, with five office bearers all under the age of 35, with the hope of restoring an identity to the homeless.
Our Vision
To be a global facilitator of equitable productivity for the homeless, and underprivileged across the African continent, and the diaspora.
Our Mission
To facilitate the restoration of identification, and supporting documents for the homeless, and underprivileged South African citizens and fellow African Nationals, across the continent and the diaspora.
To empower the homeless and underprivileged people in, and of Africa socially, economically and through many other channels that aid to the development of the “Whole Person”.
To assist the African Union and African Governments in eradicating all levels of poverty, inequality, unemployment among the youth and productive bracket of the continent.
Our Values
Wholeness. Ubuntu. Leadership. Knowledge. Production.
Problem Statement
Sthembiso Sithole (2018) wrote an article about the statistics of homeless people in Johannesburg sitting at a shocking and disheartening 110 000, with NPOs battling to shelter them. Unfortunately, there are no recent and accurate statistics about the level of homelessness in other parts of South Africa. Additionally, according to a recent estimate by the Human Sciences Resource Center, South Africa is home to approximately 200 000 street homeless people (Rule-Groenewald et al., 2015). Homelessness also affects the unemployment statistics and as reported by StatsSA, approximately 29% of South Africans are unemployed, of this, 63% is concentrated among the youth. What if these figures can be lessened by simply providing homeless people identity documents, allowing them to be exposed to the same opportunities as other South Africans? Opportunities such as education, bursaries, job openings, Learnership Programmes, entrepreneurship opportunities etc.?
An identity document is by far the most essential possession one can have, particularly to gain access to public services i.e. Banks, SASSA, CIPC etc. Sadly, the homeless are deprived of this, and many other rights and privileges that come with possessing an identity document. This is where Kudzo Foundation comes into play...
Project Proposal
Kudzo Foundation, in partnership with the Respublica Community Engagement Unit, has managed to help 10 homeless people residing at the Kotze Overnight Shelter in Braamfontein to get their IDs. The names of each can be seen on the fifth section of this document. Our main goal is to sponsor about 100 people’s IDs by the end of December 2019 and for this we are kindly requesting you to help us realize this goal by contributing towards the funding of 90 homeless people or anything above the 70% mark. In doing this, you would help reduce poverty, unemployment and inequality margins with respect to the Johannesburg disadvantaged bracket and you would have also helped fulfill the first stage of Kudzo’s goal.
Project Activities
The project activities are:
Stage 1: IDs at the Dept. of Home Affairs.
Stage 2: SASSA Applications
Stage 3: Bank account
Stage 4: Skills Training/Education
Stage 5: Entrepreneurial Development
Please email [email protected] for a full Gantt chart on the above activities.
A huge thank you for going through this campaign description. We are looking forward to hearing from you.
Blessings,
Kudzo Foundation
