Project Give A Career

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to my fundraising effort! My name is Kelly Wallace and I am the mother of a beautiful baby girl. I am from Brooklyn, NY and am currently seeking funds in an effort to make a better life for my new family.

In 2009, I decided what I wanted to do with my life.  I wanted to break into the competitive world of fashion & beauty.  The only problem was that I had no skills, no experience and no money.  

So I joined the Army with the plan that I would serve my country, save some money, get my $20,000 bonus to start a good life, use the G.I. bill to go to school and come home and gain the skills I needed to pursue my dreams.  I graduated from Basic Combat Training in Fort Jackson, at the top of my class and went on to train as a Combat Medic (68 Whiskey) in Fort Sam Houston.  There I was again at the top of the class, on my way to graduate with honors, until a routine physical rendered some very interesting news.  It was then that I learned I was to be a mother.  The Army had to discharge me, b/c now I was a liability and they didn't want anything to happen to me or my baby.  

As exciting as it was to learn that I was going to have a baby, I also have to admit I was scared.  My plan was falling apart right before my eyes.  Now I had no job, no skills to pursue my dreams AND I now had a new person depending on me.  Thankfully my boyfriend, family and friends have been very helpful and supportive.  

I stay at home with my daughter and work part-time.  But as she gets older, I know that working part-time will not suffice.  My boyfriend works full-time, but one income just barely covers the bills we have.  As much as he supports my vision and goals, we just do not have the money to send me back to school.  

But, I have not given up on my dreams to become a makeup artist and have found several schools that will teach me the skills I need to get my career started.  The school that I am most interested in is called QC Makeup Academy.  I like this school the best b/c it's actually a home-study course, which will allow me to become a certified makeup artist from home, so I can learn and still be with my daughter.  

The cost of the school is $1,748.00 and I am trying to raise the full amount.  So won't you please help an ambitious, mother achieve her dreams in an effort to make a better life possible for her family?  Though any donation amount would be greatly appreciated, I am suggesting a donation of $50. 

Clearly I had a plan, but now I realize that everything doesn't always go according to that plan.  But life doesn't stop.  I am not giving up on myself, I just need to adjust my plan.  And with your help, I can do just that.  I am a firm believer in reciprocity and karma.  So when you do good deeds for others, others will do even greater deeds for you.  Thank you all in advance for your help and support and thank you so much for taking the time to read my story.  God Bless you all! :o)
