Project Fix Dorjee’s Leg

Dorjee is a six year old Siberian Husky, named after a Tibetan monk I traveled around Asia with for a year. Dorjee was rescued by myself when he was young, and since then, he's put a smile on countless faces. Everyone that meets him exclaims how amazing he is. And until recently, he ran like the wind. 

Which is how he came to hurt himself. We were hiking in a snowy canyon and he ran down the trail, jumped over a frozen stream, and landed wrong on his front left leg. He immediately flipped over onto his back, held his paw in the air, and howled in pain. I threw him over my shoulder (not a small animal) and hiked him over a mile out of the canyon, all the while telling him he's a good dog. 

Since then, he has just rested. But sadly, his ligament is torn and he can no longer hold his weight. I know how hard this is as I once tore my ACL. He still has a smile on his face. Nothing could stop that. But in order for him to walk properly again, he needs to have a metal brace fused to the bones inside his leg. It's called carpal arthrodesis, if you'd like to know more. He won't ever be 100% again, but he'll surely have a much happier life.

They tell me that within 5 months or so he ought to be able to go camping, run on the beach, and play with other dogs again. I'd give anything to see that once more. I've already gathered every last dollar, but a friend suggested I put it out there in the world in case anyone else wanted to help a stranger's awesome dog. 

I'll be sending pictures to anyone who donates, and if anyone likes, they can talk a walk with us when he's healed (we live in San Francisco). You will see how awesome he is. I can also offer photography sessions or video work, which is one of my professions.
