Campaign Story
This March, in celebration of International Women's Day, we at Kapap Academy, are most happy to collaborate with, Lakshya Jeevan Jagriti to present to you our project entitled, Project 'EmpowerMe'.
We are hopeful of training the first batch of ladies and youth (about 100) and shortlisting around 20 of this batch to become the pioneer group of senior students in our proprietary system, Modern Street Combatives. In a subsequent trip, we would like to train another 100 of ladies and youth, as well as further develop the pioneer group of senior students.
With your support, we hope to be able to conduct one or two training seminars in the month of May/June. These training seminars held in collaboration with Lakshya, aim to help these underprivileged women and youth.
Lakshya Jeevan Jagriti (www.meralakshya.org ) is a Delhi-based grassroots organisation with the mission to narrow gender gaps and promote social mobility among women and youths from underprivileged backgrounds . Started in 2009, Lakshya takes a holistic approach to sustainable development, and focus on providing skill-based training programmes to these underprivileged women and youth.
Kapap Academy (www.kapapsingapore.com ), an award winning self defense school in Singapore, is a recognised social enterprise that has earned the right to be considered 'Business for Good'. Its founder, Ms Qin Yunquan, has earned both international and national recognitions for her social entrepreneurial work - such as the Queen's Young Leaders Award, Forbes 30 on 30, Singapore Tatler's Generational T, Singaporean of the Year Citation Award, ChatriTrees 'Community Heroes' etc. Established in 2007, we intend to collaborate with Lakshya Jeevan Jagriti, to empower these underprivileged women and youth with the personal protection skills to stay safe. According to a report released by Delhi Police, more than 5 women are raped every day in what some has referred to as the 'Rape Capital of India'. (https://www.indiatimes.com/news/india/in-delhi-the-rape-capital-of-india-five-women-were-raped-each-day-in-first-quarter-of-2018_-344881.html )
With your help and support, this proposed collaboration between Kapap Academy (Singapore) and Lakshya Jeevan Jagriti (Delhi) will help to empower the underprivileged women and youth to stay safe against sexual and physical violence. This is the first time that Lakshya Jeevan Jagriti is providing empowerment skills in this way and will have the desired effect of helping ladies and youth live free from fear of becoming victims of such violence perpetuated against them.
There are future plans to organise separate instructor training for selected individuals from the pioneer groups to be trained as professional self defense instructors. This will provide a means of meaningful employment for those who are interested to enter into self defense/ security line.
