Project Earth 2 wants to propose a different approach towards refugees and refugee camps and generate design ideas to be implemented in existing refugee camps around the world. Rather than conceiving refugee camps as storage facilities to fulfill basic human needs and refugees as temporary inhabitants, we encourage you to zoom out and consider the refugee camps as an instrument and an opportunity to activate deserted areas of Europe. Design refugee camps as stable settlements and as a changing structure that can grow, adapt and develop. How refugee camps can be flexible and grow in an organize way as their population increase? How can they transform from a temporary shelter into a stable settlement, providing proper living conditions and becoming the cities of tomorrow?
Ideas and solutions created through Cities of Tomorrow competition will be delivered to organizations and institutions working on-site such as UNCHR
With your contribution, you are supporting young talent development
giving chance to committed designers to establish connections with
communities, providing them an opportunity to participate in
designing an architecture intervention fostering social development.
At the same time it will contribute to expand the community of
committed architects, towards a more aware and active designers
expanding their range of action.
About Project Earth 2:
Project Earth 2 is an organization creating architectural and design solutions for two main challenges of
underdeveloped areas:
- Improve the housing and urban quality: Provide access to inclusive, sustainable and adequate shelter and
improve the living conditions in existing urban areas through architectural design and interventions.
- Tackle the consequences that climate change produce in communities and settlements: Research and reflect upon more sustainable and adaptive design solutions applicable to existing areas and settlements in situation of risk because of the consequences of climate change. For example, new settlements for the climate migrants and how to do it with a restricted budget.
