Project Belitung

Hello everyone,

From 1st- 4th August 2018, a group of 6 friends will be flying to Belitung, Indonesia where we will be spending 4 days teaching English and putting together a library at SD muhammadiyah tanjung pandan. This is an initiative we started as a group a few years ago to help those who don’t have learning materials as accessible to them as we (very) fortunately do in Singapore and this will be our 3rd time initiating such a project after past projects in Batam and Aceh.

Belitung is an Indonesian island off the coast of Sumatra whose economy relies mainly on tin mining. After a 21% increase in tourism in the last 3 years, it is projected that tourism will replace the mining industry as their main economic output in the next few years. For this reason, we have decided to work with schools in Belitung to help improve their proficiency in English language to support their booming tourism industry.

We will be providing every student of SD muhammadiyah tanjung pandan with a copy of a Bahasa Indonesia- English dictionary as study material to facilitate teaching and learning. On top of that, we will be donating used books to put together a library at the school.

Such a project would require us to raise money to fund the following expenses:

1. Cost of dictionaries

2. Bookshelves

3. Teaching materials

4. Shipping of materials

We hereby humbly ask for your sincerest contributions so that we are able to meet our budget requirements for this project. Rest assured, you have our gentlemen’s word that the money will be put to good cause and directly benefit the kids. Your contributions will go a long way in helping the kids find a firm foothold in the tourism industry in the long run. We only have their best interests at heart.

We are running a book donation drive to collect books that will be used to put together a library to make English language books more accessible to the students.
