In November 2017, the doctors at the Philippine Orthopedic Center told me that I urgently need an operation to treat my idiopathic scoliosis. “Idiopathic” means that the cause of my scoliosis is unknown. It could be due to genes, lifestyle or an in-born condition. Scoliosis is one of the most common bone diseases among women and for me, this is the most painful burden that I ever have to carry.

You see, a person who has this condition experiences excruciating pain after long periods of sitting, standing or walking. Not only this, cold weather triggers unbearable back pain. And as the degree of curvature worsens, a person will have difficulty breathing as the heart is slowly squeezed. Because of these many complications one must closely watch her weight because an increase in weight will cause the curvature of the spine to worsen.

Thankfully there are ways to stop this condition from becoming this critical: therapy and surgery. Therapy will help correct or lessen the curvature of the spine but can be done only while she is in her teens. Because I am already in my 20’s and because my curvature is already at 50 degrees, therapy is not an option anymore, hence the doctor’s recommendation for surgery as soon as possible. Without surgery the prognosis for me is grim.

The target date for my surgery is on March 8, 2018. This surgery will realign my spine using spinal implants that have multi-level titanium pedicle screws with rods. With these implants, my scoliosis will not worsen and I will have a chance to live the rest of my life pain-free and with the hope of a normal life.

My biggest challenge now is how to raise the funds to pay for my surgery. My parents are unemployed and my sister and I earn minimum wages and we cannot afford to pay for my medical needs. I would like therefore to ask for any help you can extend so I can have this operation.

Here is a breakdown of the funds needed for my operation:
-Spinal implants : 280,000.00
-‎Lab tests before the operation : 20,000.00 (estimated)
-‎blood and other expenses : 100,000.00 (estimated)
Total: P400,000.00

On the other hand, here are the medical assistance that I have already received from government agencies:
-PCSO Guarantee Letter for Spinal Implant : 80,000.00
-‎DSWD IV-A : 5,000.00
-‎Gov. Ramil Hernandez : Still on process
Total: P85,000

For those who feel moved to help, God bless you! I pray that the Lord will bless you a hundredfold in return for your goodness.
