Hi my name is Lauri, 33 and I'm originally from Brazil, came to United States on my own legally in 2000 (was 21 at that time) as a martial arts instructor, and have been living here in this great country ever since. My whole family lives in Brazil and I do have a younger brother Claudio (31)

I've always worked a lot since I've got here, from 2004-2007 I had three jobs, and always helped my family as my parents are retired and struggle at times financially. I've been through a lot, and it is not easy when your whole family is so far away from you, 2008 without a doubt was the toughest year in my life, I've suffered a major car accident on my way to work and someone that was running late for Church ran over the red light and t-boned me, pretty much ending my life in martial arts, and about a month later I find out that my parents are separating after 33 years of marriage.

That's when the really struggle came, I wasn't/am not able to work as much anymore as my back got injured in the car accident, had to do a lot of physical therapy, shots on my back, then medical bills started to pile up, and til today I still have several that needs to get paid as once in a while my back gives out on me where I can not even stay on my feet straight, last year in may was one of the worse as I could barely move for THREE WEEKS, and I couldn't even tell my family because I do not want them to worry about my health since they are so far from me and can't really help me.

Overall I've been handling very well, but I did have to find another job and finally this year I found one where I don't have to worry about hurting my back even more, I can be on a chair or standing up and doesn't require for me to lift anything heavy.

But this year things are getting worse, I've known that my mom has been having a hard time on moving on, and she's actually getting worse, she is now 68 and keeps saying that she's all alone and it breaks my heart that there isn't much that I can do to help her. So this last July I went to visit them as one of my cousins were getting married and I wanted to make a nice surprise, and it was nice to see the smile on my mom's face. I was only there for 11 days and after a few days there my brother told me he needed to talk to me about mom, I could tell that by the tone of his voice over the phone that it wasn't anything good.

So went to visit my brother at his apartment and he wanted to tell me something that no one else knows and that it is breaking his heart. His been helping and taking care of our mom tremendously and there's a lot of things that has happened to my mom that I had no clue or would had ever imagined. My mom started to gamble and gambling it is not legal in Brazil, she ended up borrowing money from some guys and lost all of it, it got so bad that those guys told her that she had 5 days to pay or else, she called crying to my brother asking for help, and he ended up having to take out on a loan to take care of that. But the worse was yet to come, my mom tried to commit suicide by trying to drown in the ocean, and thank God there was a couple walking by and saved her.

My brother and I are desperate to get her professional help, but we can not afford any, I've cut all my expenses to a minimum, don't even have a car payment, I've just got a 2nd job, but I'm not sure how long I'll be able to work there as I have to be on my feet for hours (4-5) twice a week. All my savings are gone and I'm not really sure what else I can do to help. I'm stressing out a lot, my back starts to hurt worse with the stress, my co-workers have noticed that something isn't right so I finally opened up to one of them and he recomemded me to this site.

Any help will be greatly aprreciated, I know there are tons of people going through rough times, but what I can offer in return is to do volunteer work, I am great with computers, I do speak three languages (English, Portuguese and Spanish), as soon as I don't have to work two jobs I will dedicate my time helping others that are also in need. THANK YOU!
