Robert Gerrard FRGS was a wonderful man and my brother. He died 16 months ago following horrific injuries sustained by armed robbers who brutally attacked him at his home in Zululand.
Ex British Army Rob was an internationally renown historian based at Isandlwana - the famous battlefied of the Anglo Zulu War. He lectured daily and travelled annually to the UK and USA to give his presentations. It had been his passion for over 20 years.
Prince Mangasothu Buthelezi gave an incredibly moving tribute at Rob's memorial service, ending with " on behalf of my ancestors and my nation, I salute a great son of Africa".
Rob and I produced much memorabilia, maps, booklets and his book People of The Heavens, which were sold in the shop at Isandlwana Lodge. The book is a 400 page full clour history of the Anglo Zulu War which includes remarkable stories obtained from local old Zulus; anecdotes about the characters involved in the war and what happened to them afterwards.
Since his death I continue to receive requests for this book and it would be a wonderful tribute to him and his work to be able to print more of these to meet demand.
I am looking for R30,000 to cover the production costs and would appreiate any help you can give.
