First 1,000 steps for a nourish and healthy childhood

In Guatemala 5 out of 10 children suffer from chronic malnutrition, this condition limits the cognitive abilities of this children and prevents them from developing their full potential.

As FUDI - Aq'on Jay we work to provide primary health care, as well as health and nutrition education to the rural communities of the country and contribute to the sustainable development of those communities. Last year we worked with 300 selected children distributed in 10 communities with the support of ICU (Video).

This year we take on a new challenge and it is to embrace a whole community and follow it hand in hand to combat Malnutrition. Our community is: Joya Grande Zaragoza, department of Chimaltenango. This community has a 54% Chronic Malnutrition index.

We received the community with 5 cases of Acute Malnutrition and 8 cases of Risk of Acute Malnutrition, in just 2 months we managed to rescue 3 of them, giving them personalized attention in health, health and nutrition training, and home visits.

However, the community has 324 homes, and in each household there is at least one child with chronic malnutrition.

For a little less than $ 100 per month, per family we can make a difference and offer these children a future with more opportunities.
