Primary School for Underprivileged Children in Chittagong, Bangladesh

[Note from fundraiser: I am Farhad, currently living in Hong Kong. I have set up this fundraiser on behalf of my father who runs the school in Chittagong.]

Background

M.A Siddique Chowdhury Primary School is a non-profit school set up in a remote village situated in Satkania district in Chittagong, Bangladesh. The families living in the area mostly consist of single working parents who work as daily labours at nearby farms and other construction sites. Having little means of sending the kids for formal education, this school was built 5 years ago, with the intention of providing primary level education for free to as many families as possible in the area. As of now, it has a total of 65 students, with 3 teachers and a security guard employed.

Currently, it is being run by a single person, Siddique Chowdhury, a local businessman residing in Chittagong.

Our Initiative

With the increasing number of students, it has become difficult to finance all the recurring expenses every month. The school is crucial to the community since the families cannot afford to send their kids to school due to both financial and location constraints. Also, the teachers are all women, now empowered with the help of being employed at our school, which in turn provides financial support to their families.

Our goal is to keep supporting the school so it can be financially viable and help educate the rising youth in the community.

What do we need help for?

We need help primarily to finance the monthly expenses incurred in the monthly operation of the school. There is a need for additional financial resources, for expenses such as employing more teachers, to meet the rising demand for new students joining the school. Below we have listed all the current expenses:

1. Books and stationeries for children
2,000 BDT ≈ 183.25 HKD

2. Teachers' salary (x3)
5,000 BDT * 3 = 15,000 BDT ≈ 1,374.76 HKD

3. Security guard's salary
5,000 BDT ≈ 458.12 HKD

4. Nutritional food (banana, juice, etc.), twice a week
40 * 65 BDT = 2,600 BDT ≈ 238.22 HKD

5. Electricity
800 BDT ≈ 73.3 HKD

6. Maintenance costs
2,000 BDT ≈ 183.25 HKD

Total: 27,400 BDT ≈ 2,510.9 HKD
