You're probably asking yourself "Why should I give this kid money for college?." Let me explain:I currently attend Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York as a Marketing Communications major. This past year was my Freshman year. Over the past year I have rooted myself in the community both socially and academically and done a lot of hard work to stay there. Instead of going out with my friends on the weekends I would stay in really working and trying my best. I even gave up my Spring break to do a missionary trip and help those in need. Now as the government has decided to give my family less money, and Ithaca has decided to raise its' tuition I fear that I will not be able to return. What sickens me about the entirety of this thing is the fact that I feel I have earned my right to go back .I have worked hard and tried my best because I understand the value of an education. Over the year I watched as a lot of people skip classes on Fridays because they were partying on Thursdays, or just plain bomb tests because they don't need to care. They had this privelage due to either there parents being better off financially, or even Ithaca giving them lots of money to attend for sports. The most striking incident occured in the second semester of this year. I watched as a friends roomate decided to take acid. His decision shouldn't have effected me, but it did. I got to watch as he skipped three weeks of classes just to sit around all day and get high. He stoped doing work completely, buy guess what! He will get to return next year. Someone who has, in my opinion, been the opposite of a hardworker will be returning and I might not. Isn't that sad? To think that he can just cruise through life and graduate while someone who has challenged themselves and worked to improved is held back by money?I just want it to be understood that I am not that college kid. I care about my education and I work too hard for it to be stopped here. If I didn't intend to work as hard or harder to stay at this school I wouldn't be asking for your help right now.I have never believed that money should be a barrier in education, but in todays society it is.  Please help me to get the education I need and stay at the school I have worked so hard both to get to, and stay at.
