For over three hundred years, the Sri Malaiyalabaghavathi Astrology Temple sat quietly on the edge of the forests performing its ancient rites and prayers for those who may come in need. The Temple preserved and promoted the cultural and spiritual values of Indian society. Founded more than 375 years ago, the Temple served the agrarian society on the surrounding farmlands. For generations, the Temple's priests and custodians performed an essential role in maintaining and performing the rites and prayers for the sick, downtrodden and poor.

Today, Mr Kanagasabapathi is the 7th Generation Priest, custodian of the Sri Malaiyalabaghavathi Astrology Temple. His title is known as Sri Mayala Bahavalhi Anugragam petra Astrologer. He explained that:

The Sri Malaiyalabaghavathi Astrology Temple faces the north. In India, most temples face the South. Temples which face the North are very powerful and send good vibrations. North facing Temples include Sri Kaali and Sri Durga.

The deity honoured at the Temple is also known as Kali. Some information about this deity can be found in the following links:

As you know, the ancient cultural heritage of our human society is constantly under challenge. Do we wish to preserve our multifaceted society. If so, can we play a part?

The custodians of the Sri Malaiyalabaghavathi Astrology Temple believe we can. But they need all the help they can get today.

The 375 years old Sri Malaiyalabaghavathi Astrology Temple was rebuilt by Mr Kanagasabapathi and reopened on 14 January 2014. The Temple was rebuilt largely by funds from Mr Kanagasabapathi and well wishers and supporters. The operation and renovation of the Temple have depleted Mr Kanagasabapathi's personal finances. He had to take loans from banks and pawn his wife's jewellery. The Temple's expenses include the celebration of Indian cultural and religious prayers for the poor, the sick and the downtrodden.

The current fund raising is to discharge loans so that the Custodian and Temple are debt free. Interest bearing loans should be cleared so that the Temple can operate without an interest burden. The following outstanding figures are original debts not taking into account interests accrued to-date and still accruing and other loans:

There are plans to build accommodation and provide basic amenities to the Temple so that guests and visitors could take part in the ceremonies and rites conducted throughout the year for the preservation and promotion of the cultural and social values of the ancient priestly duties and the Temple's support of the local communities. The Temple had been providing free access to everyone at the expense of well wishers and Mr Kanagasabapathi. The villagers have always been allowed to attend the prayers and participate in the rites without charge. As his personal finances are now severely limited, help is needed to support and promote such social causes to bring greater good to the villages and communities surrounding these ancient cultural heritage of our world.

William had been engaged in various social causes since before 1995. Examples over the years include support, financial or otherwise, for Malay children, Tibetan children, medical supplies to India, Temple construction and other efforts in Malaysia, India, China, Japan as well as pro bono consultancy in Singapore. The beauty of our human spirit and heritage blossoms from our diversity in race, culture, religion and spirituality.

In 2011, William became acquainted with Mr Kanagasabapathi. Apart from the Temple, Mr Kanagasabapathi was also behind rebuilding efforts for other temples including the SRI SELVA VINAYAGAR TEMPLE, SRI BALAMURGAN TEMPLE in Parambakudi, Sivaganga District, Tamil Nadu, India. After Mr Kanagasabapathi approached William concerning his efforts to rebuild and maintain the Temple and its operations, Mr Kanagasabapathi had kept in touch with William about the operations and affairs of the Temple.

Sri Malaiyalabaghavathi
