The main goal of this Founding project is to preserve the historical photographic material of Trogir and its area. This process is not easy and can be challenging. The material is usually bought online through different platforms, such as eBay or online auctions. I traced a lot of them in personal archives. Maybe you were wondering what is so special about Trogir? Trogir is a small town on the Adriatic coast and it is more than 2000 years old. It was founded by Greek colonists by the name Tragurion or Tragos which means - a goat. The history of Trogir is rich. It was owned by Romans, Venetians, Habsburgs, destroyed by Saracens, and under the German occupation. From the '90s until today, it belongs to the Republic of Croatia. In the last 100 years, the appearance of Trogir has changed a lot, and it is changing promptly. Heritage stone houses and green fields vanished and are replaced with modern architecture. Old trades like barrel making, fishing, or working on fields are hard to find as most of the population is shifting into different economic growth such as restaurants or tourism. To answer your question why am I so passionate to preserve this photographic heritage - for future generations. Photographic material perfectly captures time, people's habits, and traditions. Preserving this treasure will educate future generations and serve as a foundation for any future researches on how the people of Trogir once lived.
