Campaign Story
A CRYING CALL FROM THE REFUGEE CAMP IN BANGLADESH!!!
In the issues of refugee migration from Myanmar to Bangladesh, The unhygienic and congested camps are flooded with lack of medicare issue especially for childs and pregnant women. We, a group of university students could not believe ourselves when we saw the situations by our eyes when we went to the camps for our university project, and we came up with our initiative to at least help the crucial needs, pregnant women and children medicare.
Lets call upon our humanity to serve humanity and save lives of hundreds of child and mothers. The smallest change counts.
In Rohingya refugee camps, around 48,000 women gave birth last year. Specialists and Rohingya volunteers happened to race against time to find women in the giant camp who are thought to be hiding their pregnancies out of shame, as fears grow that newborns could be abandoned and new mothers might die without care in coming weeks. Those who were raped have delivered imminently, mostly in secret and without medical care on the floors of bamboo shacks. After couple of years of this situation, the condition has changed a bit but not enough. According to UNICEF the number women and children in need of help in Rohingya refugee camp is around 500000. Children and pregnant women who need special care are barely surviving with food, cloth, medicine, shelter. Here what is being emphasized is survival, not health. In this largest refugee camp of the world, where you have to stay in a queue for hours for food, where you have to put on the same cloth for months or even year, where you have to drink water with germs without hesitation or stay thirsty; you have to forget about healthy food or medicine for your pregnant wife, you have to forget about your shivering children who are waiting as well in a torn slum. They can survive this way but we can’t allow it go this way. We have decided to help the Rohingya pregnant women and children.
Problems they are facing:
- Pregnant women need special caring and proper food for herself as well as the child who hasn’t born yet. But what they are getting is only food to drive the hunger away. The food served for an average man to survive can not meet the need of a pregnant women and a child inside her.
- Pregnancy time complexities can put the life of mother and a child danger. Pregnancy in most of the cases requires regular medication which is not meet properly in refugee camps.
- Children here always suffers from malnutrition and water-borne diseases.
- In the upcoming winter Rohingya children will suffer a lot without warm cloths.
What we want to do?
- We want to provide 30 Rohingya pregnant women with proper and health food and medicines as well during pregnancy period.
- We want to arrange proper delivery in a hygienic way for these women.
- We want to ensure pure drinking water for children at least during this project period.
- We want to give at least 1 warm cloth to as much children as we can for the upcoming winter. Our initial target is 1000 children.
