My mother has been battling cancer almost her entire adult life. In her early twenties she was diagnosed with a breast tumor but was removed. Later, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer and there was no treatment for her here in Belize. My father took her to Guatemala for treatment for years while leaving my 3 siblings and I alone with different neighbors to look over us. Roughly one year after she had completed treatment in Guatemala for the cervical cancer, she was again diagnosed with a mass on her tongue. This time, she decided that she would not seek any further treatment because she had left her four children at the mercy of others while she travelled to and from Guatemala. She decided that she would spend the time she had lost with us and prayed to God that He would give her many more years of life to see her children grow into adulthood. Everyday was a miracle for her and for us, we were able to see the the working hand of God every single day when my mother woke up and for that we praise God all the days of our lives. Fast forward 20 years now, my mother is still alive and with the tumor growing on her tongue. Recent CT scans reveal the tumor to be roughly the size of a grapefruit. Things have gotten a little complicated for her lately, she has been having trouble breathing because the mass is about to completely block the airways. She cannot eat solid food but rather has to blend food to be able to eat. Still, there is no treatment for her here in Belize and now we are forced to look for medical treatment aboard with an ENT team of oncologists . She is being recommended a 2 in 1 surgery for subtotal removal of the tongue affected tissues, lymph nodes and plastic reconstruction surgery. Treatment is very difficult and a team of surgeons will conduct the 7 hour long surgery and oversee the long process of recovery. My mother's prayer is for God, if it is His will, to grand her many more years to see her grandchildren grow since she lost those precious moments with us during her years of cancer treatments in Guatemala. she is asking that the churches help her pray for her. It is our petition for anyone reading this to take a moment and pray for my mother and God's will over my mother so His name may be glorified above all things. Monetary donations to help us reach our goal to pay the surgery and treatment is also appreciated.
