Prairies Sphynx Rescue – Medical Fund

Prairies Sphynx Rescue medical fund needs help now. I run a small rescue dedicated to Sphynx. This special breed of cats are wonderful, loving, playful creatures. Often described as part monkey, part dog and part cat. They are curious, vocal and very loving. As they are a hairless breed of cat, they do need proper skin care, regular bathing as well as ear and nail care. Cats who are not well cared for will often develop serious skin issues. They are also high risk for HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy). Fortunately they are not an extremely common breed in Canada yet and therfore do not end up rescue often. In the past 2 years I have care for 6 Sphynx that needed rehoming. Several of these cats required intensive medical care. As a small rescue I often end up covering most of the expenses myself or getting donations from close friends and family.Mr. Miyagi came to us covered in sores and scars, with his skin peeling off in layers. Despite the pain that he was in, he purred and looked at me with trusting eyes, while I bathed him in medicated baths and then as gently as I could scrubbed of the dead skin. After 6 months his skin was as healed as it was going to get and he went in for much needed dental work, before he could find his forever home. The cost of his medical care was over $1000, but his love and trust was priceless.There were others as well. Currently we have Rocko, a big brute of a guy. He came to us after at least three other homes, perhaps more (if only he could tell us). He has several cysts and large moles on his body. The vet is very concerned about one on his tail that keeps bleeding and feels that it is potentially cancerous. The vets bill so far not too bad but the the estimate for the removal and biopsy is app. $1000. Perhaps more depending on what they find. Rocko is in a foster/adopt currently and loves to play with the family Boston Terrier and sleeps with his human child. As I said part cat, part dog and yes part monkey. Perhaps one of Rocko's home was a dorm or frat house as he takes great pleasure in tipping and sipping beer if he can get near it. He will check out any beverage container, but only tips and tries to sip beer.So PLEASE help me to help Rocko and other needy Sphynx.
