Post-storm Orphanage & Shelter Home Restoration Efforts at Darul Ilmi Welfare Development Association of Malaysia. ( Pertubuhan Pembangunan Kebajikan Darul Ilmi Malaysia )
We are appealing for your support for the children of the aforementioned orphanage, who suffered serious damages to their home as a result of a natural disaster that affected the area in Batu 11 Gombak, Selangor, Malaysia on the night of 28th March 2019. They are currently observing the month of Ramadhan. Hence, any help that is offered will be greatly appreciated.
The storm has damaged large parts of their home, disproportionately affecting the most vulnerable and marginalised. The home provides care to the abandoned and neglected children who are badly affected, owing to - the damage to the physical infrastructure and the high number of children supported by the home (55 children). The children are between the age of 3 and 17. Unlike individual families that have 2-3 dependents, orphanages and shelter homes mainly rely on donations and contributions from the society. The staff and the children who were on the site have been safely evacuated. They will remain in a temporary accommodation until safe and sanitary living conditions, including electricity and water, can be restored. Even after their return, the economic, emotional and psychological effects of this tragedy will be long lasting.
Four of the childrens' home units were completely destroyed as a result of the storm and two others were severely damaged. The childrens' playground, dining hall, studying hall and one of the boys' hostel were among the units that were badly damaged. Among other things, the children also lost their school supplies including stationeries, uniforms, books and other necessities.
With high losses and few avenues to raise funds and support, this home is in a desperate situation. The manager of the home is Mr Razmie bin Wan Othman. He started this association with his friends with a vision of helping neglected and deprived children. What drove them to want to make a big impact in the society such as this is the fact that they were once living in a similar life. All of them work without a salary as they have a vision to create a better future for these children . Currently, he is the only one that is actively running the place full time.
Your contribution will ensure that this home that was damaged by the storm is restored back to its previous condition as soon as possible, to mitigate any long-term impact of the trauma faced by these vulnerable children. If you or your friends would like to help, be it financially or in terms of voluntary work, you may email him at [email protected] . You may also contact Mr. Razmie directly on his mobile at 6019 305 0835 (Whatsapp available). I'm also attaching other images below and will keep updating this page from time to time. Please do not hesitate to message me for more details. Let us give back to the society in whatever way that we can. May God bless you and wishing you a peaceful and happy Ramadan.
