PMGY Sri Lanka – Nursing elective

We are three nursing students from London South Bank University, each with a lot to give. Our plan is to travel to Ambalangoda, Sri Lanka, to take part in a 4 week elective medical placement. In the 4 weeks here we will get to experience health care on a whole different level, to what we are used to here in the UK. As well as treating and caring for people with tropical medical conditions such as dengue fever and malaria to name a few, we will also be treating people who have typical conditions that we are used to treating here in the UK, just on a much tighter budget and in a slightly different way.   This is a whole new culture and experience for all three of us. As a combination we have experience in A&E, Cardiac care, orthopaedics and Critical Care. We have a lot to offer and yet still so much to learn and experience. By the end of this we would not only hope to have provided support to those we see in Sri Lanka, but also to come back to the UK as even better nurses, ready for when we qualify.   All we need is a little help and support to acheive this. We are each funding this, and as many of you will know, throughout studying we do not get paid whilst at university, and we are your average student (dont have much money).
