My name is Haytham Khamis. I’m a writer and filmmaker based in Bethlehem, Palestine. For the past year, I’ve been working on the script for, "Youssef,'' a story inspired by true events about a young-minimalist man seeking to achieve his dream of traveling overseas to meet his beloved, Sarah. In his attempt to gather the necessary money to travel, Youssef comes across a-one-time-deal to sell a few boxes of cauliflower. The film follows Youssef on his 24-hour drive to sell the cauliflowers through the city-suburb where he is faced with the absurdity of occupation, leaving his selling mission in jeopardy! Will he succeed in his mission? The film takes place on a calm and sunny spring day, set in Irtas, an ancient village east of Bethlehem.
With your generous help and support, my short film, "Youssef," will be the stepping stone to the birth of this work. The funds we are seeking will be used to cover the costs of the production and post-production. I’m working with my friend, Sophia Harb, who is the producer of the film. In the past month, we were able to assemble a talented, ambitious and passionate crew, who are friends of ours, or friends of friends, who believe in the vision of the story and want to be part of the making. We collectively come together and self-organize in order to manifest this film into reality. We are planning to shoot the film by mid- late May in order to ensure that Cauliflowers are in-season.
We aspire to travel with the film locally and internationally, through various film festivals and events.
Thank you again for your attention and support! It is truly and greatly appreciated. We will gladly credit your name in our film.
