PLEASE HELP SAVE YOUTHS FROM DRUGS AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Introduction

For a long time, cases of drug and substance abuse have been on the rise not only in Nyandarua County but also in the country Kenya at large. This has been largely attributed to high un-employment rate, low literacy levels among youths which leads to them losing hope in life and leads to them engaging in drugs. It is for this reason that we considered building a Youth Empowerment Centre, that will serve as both a learning and a guidance and counselling Centre. Our Empowerment Center will be a one storey house with the following rooms:

• A dedicated computer room with at least 20 computers
• A learning room for young learners who are 10 years and below
• A learning room for young learners who are 11 years and above
• A fully functional library
• A guidance and counselling office, and
• A general office

Who are we and why we need Crowdfunding

We are a group of young men and women dedicated in liberating our youth from drugs and substance abuse through mobilizing, educating and counselling the affected groups within the county.

Why is it so important?

Youth contribute to a whopping 77% of the total population in the county. That means if they go the drain due to drugs, we lose tomorrow’s generation. That is why the project is so important for the following reasons:

• By creating a pleasant learning environment, it will ensure that their mind will be diverted from drugs to learning.
• It will enable innovations; Through provision of internet services, this target group of people will be able to carry out their research through enhanced online platforms.
• It will provide a wide range of informational services.
• It will contain relevant and accessible collection of resources depending on the actual needs of the actual user.

How much do we have, and what we need to raise?

As part of our commitment to this project we have been able to secure two plots for the project. We dug the foundation and continued up to the slab level where the project stalled due to financial constraints. (As shown in the picture). So far, we have building stones enough for a whole room.

What we need to raise: ($15000)

• 6 Trucks of building stones: $2000
• 5 Trucks of sand: $1950
• 3 Tucks of Ballast: $ 990
• 100 Bags of cement: $630
• Timber for erecting the roof: $500
• Doors and windows: $550
• Paint: $300
• Computers, Internet router and other accessories: $3500
• Books and other accessories for the library: $1500
• Labour for the entire project: $2000

What it means

After successfully completing all these, the youth will have no time to indulge themselves in drugs and other substances as the resource Centre will divert their attention.

I want to create a reading culture in my village so as to liberate youth from drug addiction.

My Vision

My dream is to build at least five (5) resource centers within my county and many more within the country
