Please help save our family home

Hi, everyone. My name is Arlene Torres.

I humbly ask for your assistance with helping to save my late parents' home - our family home is in immediate need of repairs and restoration.

Our family settled in the bay area of California in the Summer of 1978. Both of my late parents were hard-working, diligent, loyal and loving supporters of their children and community.

Our father supported us as a member of the United States Navy. He retired after serving his country for over 21 years due to his health complications including service-related disabilities. Afterwards, seeking part-time employment to support his family.

Throughout everything, our mother also supported all of us through various jobs such as retail sales, warehouse forklift operator and military civilian service for over 35 years.

As our family was of modest means, there were times when we experienced and faced several financial difficulties and struggles, especially after the respective passing of both our beloved parents. Our mother passed away in 2001 and our father in 2013.

The love and sacrifices they made for their family was inumerable and unmeasurable. We love and miss them beyond words and it is our greatest hope and desire to protect their legacy.

One of those financial struggles, involved the means by which to repair various parts of our parents' home that had fallen into disrepair.

The damaged areas of our parents' house needing repairs and/or replacement include major floor surfaces and subfloors of both bathrooms, the kitchen and the laundry room that suffered extensive water damage caused by faulty and leaking plumbing and pipes. This includes plumbing repairs and replacement of bathroom and kitchen fixtures.

Currently, two older siblings (one wheelchair bound), another one her full-time caregiver, a younger sibling, myself, young son and disabled partner reside at my late parents' home.

Additionally, as with many individuals and families, the current Covid-19 pandemic has brought our family more hardships (obtaining employment and basic necessities).

We are currently facing the immediate possibility of our home being condemned by our city's building department and must communicate a repair plan soon (between late October and November) to begin the process of saving our home.

Previously, we did not know where to turn or how to ask for help until friends advised us about fundraising.

With your help and support, I know we will one day see a light at the end of our dark tunnel.
