Our Story

Update: It is with deep sorrow that we must inform you the passing of our dad on the 7th of December, in our home, at around 2:50pm.

We were discharged from the hospital last October 7, and we continued his remaining medications at home. He was brought to the hospital again on the 29th October and again on the 20th November because he had trouble breathing. His lungs were filled with fluid and had to take a different set of antibiotics. He was discharged on the 29th November.

We would like to thank everyone who have extended their help and have shared our campaign. I wanted to thank my friends in Singapore, especially my colleagues, who have been understanding with my situation.

It has been a tough fight, and I had been struggling to find words to update everyone who had been following this campaign. It may take some time for us to recover after this, but knowing that our dad is now pain-free and has joined our mom, and the creator, will help us in our recovery.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our dad was already diagnosed a few years ago of abdominal aortic aneurysm, a case where there's a blood-filled balloon in the aorta that runs through the abdomen. And he's been taking a lot of blood pressure medicines years before that. He also have an enlarged heart, and a history of pneumonia in the past 2 years.

My dad has an annual checkup which includes a CBC, 2D Echo, ECG, and a full abdominal ultrasound(which is not cheap) for the past 9-10 years. But last July 26, he was rushed to the hospital as he kept on vomiting and having watery stool. We suspected it was caused by amoeba, but then lab results showed negative of it. Even the doctors thought it was food poisoning, and it also turned out negative. His doctors made further tests and we started suspecting it might be because of his abdominal aneurysm.

After the ultrasound, they’ve found masses in his intestines and his liver. His doctor said these are malignant tumors and have already affected the liver badly. On the 30th July, they’ve performed a CT scan to investigate more on the tumors found and was confirmed that our dad has cancer. They have done a colonoscopy. However, they couldn’t perform a biopsy on him as it would be risky since he has to stop taking one of his blood pressure medicine and could lead to a heart attack.

On the CT scan procedure, they found out that the tumor has metastasised, and is already in stage 4. Operation wasn’t an option for us, as our dad’s heart might not able to take it and he might have internal bleeding. So, we have continued on his blood pressure medicines and we added some natural medicines from another doctor.

We were released from the hospital after 6 days. He managed to recover and was back walking outdoors on his own after a few weeks.

On Sept 17th, we went back to the hospital to have him checked as his blood pressure is shooting up to 218/125. They gave him another medicine and we were advised that once it goes back to 160, we will have to confine him in the hospital. On Sept 18th, we rushed him to the hospital because he started having fever and chills. He could barely walk and lost his appetite to eat for the past week.

Medical tests were done and we were told that fever was caused by his pneumonia. The next day, his fever had gone down and we were told he could be discharged the next day.

On the morning of the 20th, my dad started having chills after the nurses lifted him to change linens before his breakfast. He was struggling to breathe, and his lips were trembling. The hospital emergency team came to his room and he was intubated. We were transferred to ICU later that day. We were told that he had a heart attack and they have to keep a close eye on him. We was also diagnose of severe pneumonia on the same day.

On the 23rd, we were released from the ICU after he was extubated. As of today, his heart rate is already stable, but they are still treating his pneumonia. We’re already on the 10th day of his Menopenim and 2nd day on his Polymyxin B. We use 4 vials of each antibiotic in a day.

Why we needed support?
The expenses for his medical needs and hospitalisation is really overwhelming. We already ran out of funds as he’s been in and out of the hospital, plus all the medicines, especially the antibiotics, are really expensive. We’re on the 12th day in the hospital and his pneumonia is still not treated. Aside from the haze, he also has fluid in his left lung. His doctors said that the progress has been really slow as he had been critically ill, and they still have to observe him to see why the effects of the strong antibiotics are very minimal.
