My friend has been displaying signs of clinical depression for about 7 years or so, accompanied with self-harming tendencies, but her parents don't let her get treatment or even a proper diagnosis because they fear it will "embarrass the family" and "cost too much money".
We need about $2k to start off with, because the sessions will be indefinite. We don't really know exactly whether she will be eligible for subsidies and things like that, because she isn't local, which creates a lot of problems.
Free counselling has already been tried out throughout various periods in her life, but it didn't seem to work.
The episodes have been getting worse. She is receiving free counselling from her university overseas, but according to her, it didn't help at all.
We have considered going to IMH as an option, but they will leave a mark on her records and she is afraid that it will make things difficult for her when trying to find a secure full-time job in future, so we are looking at other organisations, although they are more costly.
Since we're older now, we have the means to get money on our own, and although she is already working a part-time job, she is an art student and materials are expensive, so the income is quite slow.
We would really appreciate it if you could donate; any amount is fine. Even just sharing the link would mean a lot to us. Thank you!
