Please help me with Mum Medical Bills

Had to admit, I did not envisage I had to resort to crowdfund something as important as medical fees to sustain myself in Singapore.

Will keep this short and simple - I am writing to seek the kind souls out there who are financially much better off to possibly contribute a little bit onto my expenses and in return you have my heartfelt gratitude.

Reason

My mother turns 74 this year, she is suffering from a thyroid condition, heart defect/irregularity and breast cancer. Back in 2014, her health condition deteriorated despite her regular medication and the family decided to send her to the specialists at GlenEagle and Mount Novena for various aliments. It was also when I made the pledge to get her the best treatment at whatever the cost (probably a big mistake on hindsight).

I am glad to report that her condition has improved with the constant treatment by the specialists - her thyroid levels are under control, heart condition is more or less stabilised with little sign of irregularity but she is still on long term oral chemotherapy for cancer after vowing never to go under the knife at her advanced age.

Family

My father who runs a small business used to contribute to the expenses but stopped after the business was badly affected by business rivals some 2 over years ago. My sister is only working as a part-time admin staff drawing a low salary. I am wholly supporting my mother medical expenses since 2013.

Income

In fact, I am in sales line and is comfortable making 5 figures a month on occasions. Since the treatment, I am saddled with heavy medical bills on top of the other work and family expenses. Although the government provides medical subsidy, I must admit that the existing schemes and claims can only offer so much to needy patients....try asking the many out there who are suffering from medical problems to realise the shortcomings.

In the past, I signed off the bills with my pay and utilised credit cards/credit lines while still keeping up full repayment in time. Few months back, I could not keep up with the bills, this was even more so after I was also cheated of my hard earned and much needed money by a job scammer.

Decision

Last month, I decided to transfer my mother to the restructured hospital as I really could not continue the mounting cost. She is only seeking treatment for her heart condition at Mount Novena now as the restructured hospital does not have the medication for her condition (strange strange). Recently, I was asked to pay the sum of over $5000 to Mount Novena as there was no government subsidy on two months of medication after a clerical error in the date of application.

I can still get by with the minimum monthly payment for my credit cards for a while more. Instead, I am more worried about having enough money for mum medical expenses; I had once held off payment for the medication. However, I am also aware that this cannot continue forever - I need to work doubly hard to bring in greater income and clear the outstanding debt. The irony is that based on my declared income I should be able to secure a 6 figure loan from the financial institutes that would solve my problems.

Commitment

I am confident of my capabilities and ability to repay, I must also concede that I am unable to fully concentrate on my work and life against the backdrop of potential bankruptcy should I failed to keep up payment.

Appeal

Hence, I am sincerely appealing to the kind souls who are able to assist me in this plight through a crowdfund so that I can clear off portion of the outstanding credit bill at one go.
