Help me to support my village and community who have problems in supplying food and medicine during the covid-19 pandemic

Hi

My name is Gede Suba Juliantara, I am 17 years old and I’m from Bali, Indonesia. My family and I live in a place called Munti Gunung, located in the Karangasem region, in north east Bali.

This area of Bali does not have the opportunities as more popular areas such as Kuta, Seminyak or Ubud as tourists do not usually visit all the way up here. This means the people in my village and the wider region experience poverty more often and are forced to seek job opportunities in the tourist areas to provide for their families. Before COVID, 80% of people in my village worked in the tourist areas, such as Kuta.

When COVID-19 came to Bali and tourists stopped coming, people from my village lost their jobs and were forced to return home. Now without work, regular income or support from anyone for over 12 months, many people are experiencing great hardships. Families are unable to pay school fees, see a doctor, buy food or sometimes even find enough water (the north east of Bali receives very little rain during the dry season).

I am trying to reach out to as many people around the world as possible, to see if someone is able to help me help my village and community. My goal is to help at least 17 families to be able to buy food for as long as possible. I am trying to do this on my own, with some help from my dad and our Australian family friends (who helped translate this message).

Please help me support my community. I would like to make sure that everyone in my village has at least enough food to survive, but also for the people of Bali to know that the world still cares for the people who have helped welcome tens of millions of tourists over many years and make Bali such a loved place to visit. We can’t wait to welcome everyone from around the world again, but for now we need your help.
