PLEASE HELP ME PROTECT MY FAMILY!

Hello, thank you for taking a few moments to read my families plea. After losing my job almost a year ago and after applying at every place I could think of around town, I was not getting any calls; even after I called them to check on the statues of an opening.

My husband and I were in a panic to say the least. How were we going to make the mortgage payment and keep our kids feed, clothed and in a home that they grew up in? After thinking about our situation and brain storming and looking around our home, we had so many material things that we were willing to give up, to save us – our family, and so that’s what we have done and will continue to do. So we came up with what we thought was a solution.

We thought; why not open a second hand store with everything we have. Everyone like’s a bargain: especially with the economy and lack of jobs. I know that I LOVE second hand with having four children and a grandchild, I saved money shopping this was and being frugal and environmentally conscience.

Anyway, my husband’s boss rented us a space for a discount of what he normally charges so this is what we did. We took EVERY penny and even some we didn’t have and opened this business. We also took all our possessions that were “luxuries” and kept all the necessities that we needed for day to day living and opened a small second hand store, where we thought would be a prime location. Turns out we were off base here completely! The area we opened this store in is a high crime area. So far my son and I have witnessed: guns being pulled on others, fights, a known sex offender living directly across from the store and verbal arguments as well as other things that really concern my husband and I. We try very hard NOT to bring our children or grandchild to the store for any reason, which in fact makes them upset because they would like to be involved in the FAMILY business, but due to the circumstances, they are not able to. We worry tremendously about our family’s safety as well as a customer and potential customer.

Now, for the reason I am here. PLEASE help us raise the funds to move our business to a much safer location for my family’s SAFTY! With the business just opening, we are not even making a profit, we have been open since January 2013 and we are seriously on the verge of losing everything due to lack of customer’s. It is my husband’s and my belief that potential customers are literally afraid to come to the store’s current location. We have had this brought to our attention as well, current customers inform us if we were in a different location they would frequent more often, we have spoken with potential customers who really want to visit our store, but tell us they will NOT step foot on this part of the city!

I have done a lot of research, asked a lot of questions, sent out survey’s that individuals could fill out anonymously and talked with our local Chamber of Commerce and came up with a very safe, high profit area that would suit our family’s needs, but we have ZERO funds to make the transition. The staff at the Chamber of Commerce stated that the business will thrive (no guarantees) according to their statistics and their independent research as well.

My husband and I do in fact realize that a lot of areas are high crime or risky, but we did our homework and YES! We do realize there is some degree of danger in EVERY neighborhood regardless, but it is our job as parents not to put our children in harm’s way knowingly! That would not make us good parents! My family and I would love a helping hand make this happen, if we can reach our goal this would mean several things to our family.

• We would potentially gain several customers.
• The WHOLE family can be involved.
• Safety will not be such a concern (it’s ALWAYS a concern, but not like this).
• We would not have to ask the state or government for a hand out.
• With anticipation we would be able to create a couple of jobs to help another individual or family with additional income, as well. We would LOVE to be able to pay it forward.
•  We would be able to extend our hours, we close BEFORE it gets dark, for safety reasons.
