They say that dog is man's best friend and that until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. Let me tell you the story of Bowen and Gauge. Bowen is a 22 year old firefighter from Georgia, who loves the outdoors and has a passion and love for people that few can understand. I met Bowen a few years ago and we have become very close. He is one of the sweetest people who walk this earth and his passion, dedication, and selflessness when it comes to running into burning buildings is unparalleled. He would lay down his life in a heartbeat and would go to the ends of the earth for anyone in need. One thing that you need to know about Bowen is that wherever he goes, Gauge goes. Who is Gauge? Gauge is most likely the most spoiled and adored pet in the Northern Hemisphere. He is a silver Weimaraner and I swear this dog is more human than some humans. No kidding. Gauge is Bowen's buddy, his partner in crime. The bond that these two have is visible as if the room was filled with fog of trust and friendship. There's an indescribable tangibility to it that can only be understood when you see them in action or hear how Bowen talks about Gauge.
But Gauge is not in a good way. His age is catching up to him and his joints are beginning to give in. And the pain and fear I hear in Bowen's voice when he talks about Gauge's condition, not only breaks my heart, but shatters it. And more than anything, I want to keep Gauge's memory alive. This is where I need your help. There is a company called Putty Love that make casts of your pet's nose and paw. But finances are extremely tight for me at the moment and I'm afraid that by the time I have the funds, I might have missed my chance and that Gauge will be gone. I hope to give the casts as Bowen's birthday gift (his birthday is on the 3rd of February).
If there is any way you could help me, I would appreciate it more than words can describe. You're not getting someone a birthday present, you're giving them something to hold on to when the nights are lonely after the goodbyes have been said.
Thank you ever so much for your help!
